Monday

we all scream for..

We went for a stroll in the park yesterday, and treated the Boy to his first Ice Lolly. He seemed to enjoy it, but wasn't too convinced by the whole concept of lolly sticks

He's relatively clean here, but trust me, that didn't last long! His little trousers were made by my good self and recycled from a pair of the Frenchman's torn trousers, from a pattern I found here.

In keeping with the ice cream theme, I promised a friend of mine this recipe weeks ago, and thought I'd post it here too for anyone else who fancies trying. It's my Granny's recipe, it's scrummy and you can even make it if you don't have an ice cream machine!

My Granny's Blackberry Ice Cream

Ingredients
1lb blackberries, sieved of liquidised
6oz sugar
¼ pint water
½ pint double cream
Juice of 1 lemon

Method
1. In a pan, dissolve the sugar in the water, then bring to the boil for 3 minutes, then cool
2. Sieve the berries, then add to cooled sugar syrup mixture to the purée
3. Beat the cream until nice and thick. Turn into the purée mixture and beat, then turn into a container and freeze.
4. After 3 hours when the mixture is set around the edges, but soft in the centre, remove from the container into a bowl and beat again for a few minutes to increase the volume
5. Return to the container to re-freeze

NB Any soft fruit can be used in place of blackberries.

No lolly sticks necessary.
